Deadline to Submit 2006 CAIS Information Extended (May 9, 2006)
WINNIPEG, Manitoba, May 9, 2006 - In response to feedback from producers and accountants, the deadline for submitting final Canadian Agriculture Income Stabilization (CAIS) forms has been extended from June 30 to September 30, 2006. The CAIS program helps producers protect their farm income from both small and large income declines.
To be eligible for 2005 CAIS, producers need to:
- have already selected their coverage level for 2005;
- complete the final CAIS form by the September 30 deadline (Form T1273 or equivalent Statement A for corporations).
The announcement applies only in provinces and territories where CAIS is delivered federally: British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and the Yukon Territory. Producers in other provinces should contact their provincial CAIS Administration for information on program deadlines.
Federal, provincial and territorial governments are committed to making the CAIS program simple, more responsive and bankable. Budget 2006 provides an increase of $1.5 billion for the farm sector in the current fiscal year.
The deadline for submitting information for tax purposes to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) remains in place. The deadline to file tax information remains June 15 for individuals and June 30 for corporations.
For more information on CAIS, producers can call the administration toll-free line at 1-866-367-8506 or visit the program Web site at www.agr.gc.ca/caisprogram.
