Weed control featured at prairie Canola Colleges this March (February 16, 2006)
February 15, 2006: Weed control in canola is the theme for the Canola Council of Canada’s three Canola Colleges this year. There will be one Canola College in each province - Saskatoon, SK March 7; Brandon, MB March 9; and Nisku, AB March 14.
Matthew Stanford, Council agronomist in southern Alberta, says the plan is to bring canola growers and their production advisors up to speed with new weed threats and new control methods.
“In the past, the Canola Colleges have been an excellent source of new information and this year will be no exception”, Stanford says “As a result, the colleges are very well attended, and reserving your seat early is highly recommended”, he added.
Space is limited to 80 people at each location, so call and reserve your seat right away. Contact Gail at 1-204-982-2100 or toll-free 1-866-479-0853 today!
Speakers for the 2006 Canola Colleges include:
Dr. Neil Harker, AAFC in Lacombe, AB, re crop input trials, chemical application timing, and crop rotations and Eric Johnson, AAFC in Scott, SK, re herbicide groups and modes of action, how group “stacking” can affect the land, and how environmental conditions interact with herbicide efficacy.
Dr. Bruce Murray, MAFRI, Carman, MB, and Dr. Hugh Beckie at the Saskatoon Research Centre, AAFC, re weed resistance management, why we should be concerned and how that issue ties in with herbicide groups and modes of action.
Dr. Tom Wolf and Brian Caldwell, AAFC Saskatoon, re new equipment technology, water rates, spraying and using a sprayer. They’ll demonstrate with a working sprayer boom model.
