Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation launches Research Project on Grain Elevators in Saskatchewan (November 18, 2005)
The Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation has recently reinitiated a research project on grain elevators in Saskatchewan. The goal of the project is to update the inventory compiled in 1999, and produce a comprehensive listing of Saskatchewan's existing grain handling facilities, highlighting 5-10 of greatest significance for possible future provincial recognition.
The Heritage Foundation is currently compiling a detailed list of oldest remaining structures, prime examples of architectural prototypes, and noteworthy experimental stages in equipment and styles. Provision of the following information would considerably assist the completion of this project:
- A list of existing elevators and annexes in your community or jurisdiction, and the name of the company that currently operates it. If the remaining elevator(s) is owned by a local group, please indicate how and from whom they acquired it;
- The precise dates of any recent changes, additions or modifications of existing elevators;
- If an elevator was demolished since the 1990s, please include the name of the elevator, the precise year of closure and the precise year of demolition;
- If an elevator was sold, please include the name of the buyer (if not confidential) and year of sale;
- Please indicate if an elevator has been scheduled for closure or demolition;
- We would like to hear about any existing elevator including: elevators that are in farmyards; privately built or owned facilities; elevators abandoned many years ago but still standing.
- General information about modern high-throughput terminals, including date of construction, capacity, size, height and brief history of how and why it was founded.
We would greatly appreciate any information of the sort outlined above. For further clarification do not hesitate to contact either myself at (306) 522-9793 or alternatively at my office number (306) 787-8956. Garth Pugh, Manager of the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation can be reached at (306) 787-4188. We can both be reached by FAX at (306) 787-0069. Thank you.
Sincerely,
