Reg Alcock Announces Appointment of New Canadian Wheat Board Director (May 11, 2005)

OTTAWA, May 11, 2005 - Reg Alcock, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB), today announced the appointment of Dr. William Wai Lun Cheuk, Ph.D., to the Board of Directors of the CWB.


“I am pleased Dr. Cheuk has accepted this appointment to the Board of Directors,” said Minister Alcock. “He brings with him extensive educational training and business experience, and I’m confident he will make significant contributions to the future of the Canadian Wheat Board.”


Dr. Cheuk holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Ph.D in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the University of British Columbia. He has extensive experience in both agri-business and environmental technologies and is currently the President of South Alder Greenhouses Ltd. and Vision Envirotech International Ltd. and is the Vice-President of Emerge Venture Capital Inc. Dr. Cheuk serves as Director of the Investment Agriculture Foundation of British Columbia and as a Director of the British Columbia Health Product and Functional Food Committee. He has led numerous trade missions to Southeast Asia and has participated in trade dispute resolution at both the International Trade Commission and the World Trade Organization. Dr. Cheuk is also President of the Chinese Federation of Commerce of Canada.


The CWB is a farmer-controlled organisation that markets wheat and barley grown by western Canadian producers. Based in Winnipeg, the board is the largest single seller of wheat and barley in the world.
